How it works
Detect, remind, assist. Toll Mate doesn't take payments or hold your card — it makes sure you never find out about a charge from a penalty letter.
Drive as normal
Toll Mate runs in the background using GPS geofences that live on your phone. There is no account and no sign-up.
It spots the charge
When you cross a barrierless toll or enter a charging zone, Toll Mate logs the journey and works out the payment deadline from the operator's rules.
You get a reminder
A notification tells you what you owe, when it's due, and links straight to the operator's payment page. Mark it paid and it's done.
What it covers
Toll Mate only watches the charges you can actually forget: the ones read by camera and paid online afterwards. Pay-at-barrier roads are listed for reference but never trigger a reminder, so the alerts you do get mean something.
River crossings
Mersey Gateway and Silver Jubilee Bridge (Merseyflow), Dartford Crossing, Tyne Tunnel, Blackwall and Silvertown Tunnels.
Charging zones
London ULEZ, Congestion Charge and LEZ; Clean Air Zones in Birmingham, Bath, Bristol, Bradford, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Tyneside; Durham's road user charge; Oxford's zero emission zone.
Airport forecourts
Barrierless pay-later drop-off zones at Heathrow (T2–T5), Gatwick (North and South), Manchester (T2 and T3), London City and East Midlands.
Scottish LEZs
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee are listed for compliance awareness — there's nothing to pay, but a non-compliant vehicle gets a penalty.
Built to be trusted
A reminder app only works if you can believe its alerts. Everything in Toll Mate is designed to keep false alarms out and real ones in.
Deadline-aware
Each site carries its own rule — midnight the next day, a three-day TfL window, a 24-hour council limit — so the reminder matches the real deadline.
Knows a crossing from a drive-by
Directional corridor detection for bridges and tunnels, and once-a-day logic for zones like ULEZ, so you aren't nagged twice for the same charge.
Updates without an app update
Boundaries, prices and rules are effective-dated and synced from a public source, so changes land on your phone without a new release.
Journey log
Every detection is saved locally with its deadline and status, so you can see what's paid and what's outstanding.
Private by design
Location is processed on the device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is sold, and there are no ads or accounts.

Does Toll Mate pay the toll for me?
No. It detects the charge, reminds you and takes you to the operator's official payment page. Paying is still your responsibility, and the app is not a substitute for checking the operator's rules.
Why does it need background location?
So it can notice a crossing while the app is closed. The app shows a plain-English disclosure before asking for the permission, and location is only used to match your position against the toll database on your phone.
Will it tell me if my car is ULEZ or CAZ compliant?
No. Toll Mate reminds you that you've entered a zone; whether your vehicle is charged depends on its emissions standard, which you should check with TfL or the local council.
What if it misses one?
GPS can be wrong and rules can change. Treat Toll Mate as a safety net, not a guarantee — the operator's signs and website are always the final word.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not yet. Toll Mate is currently Android only.
